How To Fix False Teeth
Can you repair broken dentures at home?
Yes you can, but please please do not use regular DIY glue! Seriously the stuff got to go into your mouth so make sure it is a professionally made denture repair product. In Europe such products are classified as a medical device and the pack must display a CE mark to insure the public the device is regulated and meets specified quality standards.
The hard denture plastic is made from polymethyl metharcylate and is nearly always a gum pink colour though sometimes they can also be clear. The teeth are also made from polymethyl methacrylate but are available in various tooth shades.
The denture plastic is quite brittle and sometimes they do crack, break or a tooth becomes dislodged, providing the pieces can be put together with nothing missing then it should be possibe to repair it. Ideally a repair should be done by a dental technician but when this is not possible or convenient then a DIY denture repair kit is a handy stop-gap. One such kit is Dr. Denti Superfix. Superfix uses EPS technology to make it remarkably easy to mix the powder and liquid parts and then apply directly onto the joined up crack. Other denture repair kits supply the powder and liquid separately which require a fair degree of manipulation to dispense, mix and apply the product on the crack. When repairing a denture never alter or apply any repair adhesive to the fitting surface of denture, this is the side that presses against the roof of the mouth or sits on your lower gums. The fitting surface has been designed to closely following the contours of your mouth to provide comfort and stability to the dentures and any alterations should only be performed by a qualified dental technician.
Finally, remember a home repaired denture should only be treated as a stop gap and it is essential a follow-up check is performed by dentist or a dental technician.
